In an exclusive interview with community heads and other Sierra Leonean business people, they disclosed that the Romania business magnate, Ahmad Mackie, under his Maccem Industries SL Limited, is in an advanced stage in the construction of a new cement factory, which he has already created thousands of sustainable jobs for unemployed young people at the Hastings community and beyond, in the Western Area Rural District. The good news is that before the completion of the modern cement factory, Ahmad Mackie had already given thousands of technical and casual jobs to the rural community.
These developments have been welcomed by residents in the communities, and attempts to smear his name has met with stiff criticisms.
According to staff at the facility, Mackie has in his permanet employ over three hundred workers, 95% of whom are Sierra Leoneans, thereby helping the government address the unemployment situation in the country. He is said to have other business ventures that have been beneficial to many Sierra Leoneans, some of them now having their own businesses.
His contribution to the health sector has also been noteworthy, as in times of crisis, he has been a ready partner, like during the cholera crisis in Kissy, where he donated medical equipment and drug supplies to the kissy community. Mackie’s assistance extended to people with disability, donating food items to them during COVI-19, as well as equipment to the service providers at NACOVERC.
The Maccem Cement Factory company is the first indigenous cement factory in the country to produce large quantities of cement at affordable prices, using local raw materials. The Mackie family has created employment for a huge number of Sierra Leoneans, contributing greatly to the development of the country since independence.
In the international arena, the name, Ahmad Mackie, is an household name in the business world.
