NatCA Discloses Action Taken Against 021 Code Scammers
The National Communications Authority (NatCA) formerly NATCOM, headed by its Director General, Amara Brewa, says it has learnt about a video being circulated on social media platforms about ROBO CALLS from fraudsters/scammers using a 021 National Destination Code (NDC), purportedly emanating from Sierra Leone.
However, NatCA, in its press release, states that the video doing the rounds is an old one, which the institution had addressed as far back as May 2019.
According to the release, when the issue of the 021 code emerged, the Sierra Leone Government through NATCOM (by then) wrote to inform the Federal Communications Commissioner (FCC) in the United States that they are aware and disappointed over the use of an NCD purportedly emanating from Sierra Leone targeting subscribers in the USA.
NATCOM (by then) also called for a probe by notifying the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) to delete the 021 code from their database and from all international carriers, as a way of inhibiting fraudsters/scammers from continuing to use this line.
Meanwhile, NatCA is calling on all Sierra Leoneans and consumers of telecom services to be rest assured that this was an old piece of information that had been promptly and successfully handled.
Since his appointment, Amara Brewa has been working relentlessly to improve the image of the institution. With his wealth of experience as the former Deputy Director General, he is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that he works amicably with all sections and divisions at NatCA to accomplish President Julius Maada Bio’s vision for that institution.
