HOSPITALISATION OF MISPLACED PRIORITY.
BY Ibrahim Sorie Dumbuya
The misplaced priorities in this government have become a cathedral romancing with the media and civil societies who are obligated to be the voice of the masses. Having a government that is running away from its obligations and responsibilities is as dangerous as state coup in any country.
The provisions of basic amenities by the government have become a bakery of impossibilities already consumed by inapplicable policies and activities.
Let us not forget that the intermittent power supply is birthed from the misplaced priorities by the government. Blackout is partying with the frequent foolish travelling expenses that the government is doing which is not producing any benefit to the people of Sierra Leone. Electricity is paramount and must be an obvious responsibility that the government must address to provide security, maximizing household income stability and comfort.
Our health system, climate change are sustained with electricity, but because of bad governance, financial mismanagement and misappropriation,Sierra Leone is engulfed with serious blackout risking poor health facilities and high mortality rate.
Politics does not have to be a bad thing. Actually, politics can be a good thing when we bring people to the table to sit down, work together, compromise and get things done for the common good, but in Sierra Leone, the politics is a source of self enrichment, mismanagement and corruption.
Government failing to pay the Karpowership for electricity supply is not because of unavailability of fund, but because of the misplaced priorities that have taken the center stage of corruption. Traveling with unnecessary delegations to international programs, creating unnecessary offices, contracting international media firm to help promote and protect the embarrassing image crisis the nation is suffering with.
Another act of misplaced priorities is the fight for political legitimacy with arrogance, unpatriotic policies and selfishness; a political legitimacy which can be easily earned by conducting a credible elections and the release of the elections result and disaggregated data, which will cost us little or no money, that has been entreated with budgetary allocation to expense for legitimacy procurement via media propaganda and undemocratic means.
We cannot pay karpowership for electricity supply but can pay huge sums to international media firm to launder the country’s image on international stage, what an impossible fight.
Government cannot block leakages with misplaced priorities neither salvaging the economic crisis with social media propaganda. The government is bending on petty partisan obstructions that are locked out of coverage and also narrowing the fiscal space of employment, national development and cohesion.
A government that lacks a quality leadership and a vision to positively develop a nation will always find solace in global crisis as an excuse for its failure to improve the lives of its citizens, even a global crisis that is not phenomenal to its state.
Sierra Leone has been captured in the memory of a camera trying to simultaneously fighting against its donor givers and development partners and the internal economic crisis that is celebrating the laziness and arrogance.
