Henry Ferguson Municipal Secondary School, under the leadership of Mohamed Abudu Joaqie, is set to celebrate 20th Anniversary of academic and administrative excellence. The school was established in September 2002, at Kennedy Street, Fourah Bay Community, Eastern Freetown, under the Sababu Education Project, just after the 11 years rebel war ended in Sierra Leone.

The Magazine, Fourah Bay, and Kanikay communities were known to host lots of dropout students and unemployed youths after the war. These communities became a hotspot for crimes, hooliganism, drugs and robbery, so the establishment of the school in those communities was not a mistake.

The school, under the management of Abudu Joaqie, has maintained a good position in the Basic Education Certificate Exams. Joaqie, with the help of Freetown City Council (FCC), community stakeholders and the Ministry of Basic Education, has succeeded in upgrading the school in to a Senior Secondary facility.

He was commended by parents and Civil Society Activists as one of the few Principals that have fully supported the Free Quality Education that was launched by President Bio.

Abudu Joaqie built a good working relationship with all staffs of the school, which resulted in the successes made and goals achieved. His prudent managerial skills have contributed to putting the school among the top Municipal Schools in the country.

The Henry Ferguson Municipal School has a spacious and friendly environment with standard wash facilities, as well as a clean and safe learning environment.

As far as discipline among teachers and students and upholding of high moral standards are concern, the school cannot be compared to none of the schools operating in that community.

However, school authorities say that their main challenge now is accommodating all the pupils, who want to gain admission into the school, both in the junior and the senior classes.

Activities of the celebrations will be published in our next edition.
