It Is Our Collective Responsibility to Power Africa Out of Poverty

United Bank for Africa on 21 September 2022 held a roundtable discussion at the bank’s New York headquarters in the United States of America. The discussion, which hosted Tony Elumelu Foundation and Google.org, is aimed at providing a platform for UBA to meet United Nations leaders and highlight the urgency of investing in African entrepreneurs to create jobs, eradicate poverty, promote gender equity, as well as create economic opportunities that will aid the transformation of the continent.  

As reported by UBA-SL Official Facebook page, present at the roundtable were UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, Jacqueline Fuller, the President, Google.org, Nitin Gajria, Managing Director, sub-Saharan Africa Google, Achim Steiner, Administrator, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Shirin Pakfar, Chief of Private Partnerships and Philanthropy, and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Ms Jemimah Njuki.

Also present at the event were the Chief of Economic Empowerment Section, United Nations Women, Catherine Russell, Executive Director, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Kevin Frey, Chief Executive Officer, GEN U, Preeti Sinha, the Executive Secretary, United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), Peter Maurer, President, International Committee of the Red Cross – ICRC, Pren-Tsilya Boa-Guehe, Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager, African Institutions, Google, Ms Inger Andersen, Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Alberto Barca Trillo, President Elect, International Fund for Agricultural Development – IFAD, Travis Atkins President, United States African Development Foundation (USADF), Professor Petteri Taalas, Secretary-General and World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Abdul Samad Rabiu, Founder, Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative.
