According to information reaching this press, the home of one Mustapha Daramy, a popular business man and party operative of the main opposition party (APC), was attacked by some ruling party thugs on allegation that he is inciting youths to embark on a protest on August 10th 2022.
According to sources, Mustapha is a known party supporter of the main opposition party, and has been frequenting a popular community relaxation centre. He is said to have been involved in propagating activities of his party in the community, much to the annoyance of ruling party sympathizers. He has been accused of popularizing the proposed protest against the government, and this infuriated ruling party youths, who then stormed his residence, throwing stones and broken bottles at his house. His vehicles were damaged and house vandalized He is said to have escaped with his kids and his whereabouts are unknown.
Things came to the fore when the August 10 incident took place. Angry ruling party youths and armed security are said to have stormed his house again in search of him in respect of the aforesaid allegation made by the thugs to the security forces. During the said raid on his house, it was then discovered that Mustapha had left his house, some weeks before the incident, and a search was undertaken in all known places frequented by him in the community, to no avail
Residents interviewed by this medium in the community say that Mustapha Daramy is a known sympathizer of the main opposition, and that the said allegation against him was a regular topic of discussions among some of the youths, notably, ruling party youths, and that his home was attacked and property vandalized on 14th July 2022, as well as on 10th August 2022, when the violent protest took place.
What has become the concern of Civil Society Organisations and opposition parties is the alleged extra-judicial killings of known supporters of the main opposition that have been targeted by the security forces and men in plain clothes with arms. The Killing of a popular commentator on social media in the Northern town of Makeni, the stronghold of the main opposition party, commonly called Evangelist Samson, has brought the extra-judicial killings to the fore, and has seen many opposition party operatives going into hiding, with some even disappearing.
Many family members of those who had disappeared are said to have been seeking the whereabouts of their loved ones, with many being prevented by the security forces from accessing the country’s main mortuary, especially as news of various bodies being conveyed to the facility that have not been identified, 98% of them with gunshot wounds.
As we go to press, family members of Mustapha Daramy say that his whereabouts and that of his two kids are unknown. They further confirmed that when Mustapha left the house that fateful day, he was seen with his two kids, dodging his assailants, and has since not returned, nor is their whereabouts known to anyone. They fear that they may have been among the number of those killed by security forces in the August 10th demonstration or the days after.
