Following the outcome of our joint investigations into serious allegations of sexual harassment and extortion in exchange for visa grant within the Turkish Embassy, media houses were grossly intimidated by officials of the Embassy with a threat of potential legal action after tbeir maiden publication
In light of these findings, the Embassy took action by filing a complaint of defamation against this particular media house and its partner, Spy Newspaper, with the Independent Media Commission (IMC).
In a significant development, the IMC ruled in favor of The Parameter and the Spy Newspaper, determining that both media entities had adhered to proper procedural guidelines in their investigation, as well as, in the publication of their findings concerning these grave allegations.
This ruling underscored the importance of journalistic integrity and the responsibility of media to report on matters of public interest, particularly, those involving potential abuses of power.
In recent months, our media organization, in close collaboration with other investigative bodies, has uncovered new and compelling evidence relating to the said allegations made by certain applicants against staff of the Embassy.
These troubling claims were brought to our attention by a group of applicants who felt compelled to share their experiences, highlighting a continuous and troubling pattern of misconduct.
In an effort to clarify these serious allegations and facilitate a dialogue regarding the findings presented, our team reached out to the embassy by sending a formal email.
This communication requested specific information and a clarity to concerns outlined in the allegations.
However, it is perplexing to note that its more than two months now since this request for clarity was made with a recent follow up inquiry email, and the embassy has failed to neither respond nor acknowledge of our email
This lack of engagement raises significant concerns about the Embassy’s commitment to addressing the issues at hand.
It also depict the troubling trend in which journalists and their investigative eforts are not been treated with the seriousness and respect they rightfully deserved by those authority.
As our investigation continues to unfold, we remain committed to uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable.
