The increase reports of isolated attacks and killing on person found to be gay , lesbian bisexuals and transgender LGBT seems to have no end in sight as recent case of Amzar Kamara depicted.
News intimated this press revealed that in Kola Tree upper Allentown East end of Freetown, Amzar Kamara a business man and Chairman of Sani Abacha street trading chairman has come under serious intimidation and harassment from members of his family and the community after being caught practicing homosexuality’s with his male partner in his own matrimonial home. According to source from a close friend of Amzar Kamara said that he began engaging in same sex activity while attending a boarding secondary school after being expelled and facing financial hardships. A wealthier friend offered to help pay his school fees in exchange for a sexual relationship, and this financial pressure influenced involvement. He was influenced by Money to practice homosexuality’s.
Amzar Kamara was caught by his wife practicing homosexuality’s with his male partner. Both family members stakeholders and the community youths have mounted a round the clock Search for Amzar Kamara who is now declared wanted by the Sierra Leone police. Amzar Kamara who hails from a strong Muslim home and his father Pa Alhaji Abdulai Kamara was a Chief Imam at the Kola Tree upper Allentown Mosque. He was raised by a strong Muslim family was not expected to practice this act especially when his family was well known by members of the community as religious people and strict Muslim family.
Both national and religious laws in the country totally forbid individuals from practicing such acts. Family and community members were completely disappointed at Amzar Kamara action which noted goes contrary to their customs and traditions. Amzar Kamara has been very secretive about his sexual orientation before he was caught. On the 9th August,2022 the wife of Amzar caught, Amzar having sexual intercourse with his male counterparts at there home which the wife called her brother and community members decided to take the laws into her hands together to physically and violently attacking Amzar Kamara and his partner at the place of seeing during the process Amzar and his partner were fortunate to escape for their lives in the hands of community members and at the police custody in the late evening on the 9th August,2022.
After his successful escaped from the hands of the police on the 9th August,2022, rumoured has it that , they should have eliminated his life because he has not only embarrassed and disgraced them but has also flouted the custom and traditions of the land and going against what the family believes in and as such was described as the black sheep of the family and if seen again they will kill him. As he was declared wanted
This medium also learnt that members of the community were against his life styles of which they were pointing fingers at him which nearly led him to commit suicide. It was also understand that this irate community members stormed the residence of Amzar Kamara based on an intelligence they purportedly received that he has returned to his residence which in actual facts turned out to be false. Since then no one knows the whereabouts of Amzar Kamara, but it is believed that both of the police and that of the community members are still angrily hunting him . According to Sierra Leone laws lesbian and gay acts are totally discouraged and disallowed, the Sierra Leone constitution state that anyone caught in the practice must face a sentence of life imprisonment with hard labour.
