In a show of solidarity and support for democracy, delegations from the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, and the European Union (EU) have come together to issue a joint statement regarding the recent general elections held in Sierra Leone on June 24th, 2023.

The international delegations applauded the people of Sierra Leone for their active participation and commendable dedication in exercising their democratic right to vote. Despite facing logistical challenges in certain areas, the citizens of Sierra Leone displayed remarkable commitment throughout the electoral process.

However, concerns were raised about the transparency of the tabulation process, drawing attention to potential flaws in the election’s integrity. National and international observation missions echoed these concerns, emphasizing the need for greater transparency in the tabulation process.

Undeterred by these difficulties, the joint statement reiterated the unwavering commitment of the international community to supporting democracy and the aspirations of the Sierra Leonean people. It urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and respect the rule of law, while emphasizing the importance of peaceful dialogue in resolving any disputes that may arise.

As Sierra Leone moves forward from the election, the international delegations stand in solidarity with the country and its people, emphasizing the significance of transparent, fair, and inclusive electoral processes as foundations of a strong democracy.

The joint statement serves as a reminder of the international community’s dedication to upholding democratic principles and supporting the people of Sierra Leone in their pursuit of a prosperous and democratic future.
