As traditions, religious beliefs and secret societies practices taking center stage in the socio-economical and geopolitical system in Sierra Leone, natives of Sierra Leone are entrenching themselves into spiritual culture and secret societies that are mostly connected to demonic spirits whilst being into factions to different cultural practices like , the Orgeh, Bambamni, Tamaboro, Hunting , Gelegeh and few others.
These traditional cultures have their own norms of procedures in joining and becoming a leader or head.
In these recent times, there have been many evidence and stories about people who had been forcefully initiated into traditional societies beyond their wishes and demands; some were even killed when trying to forcefully initiate them into secret societies.
In Sierra Leone, many of the big authorities and political heads are members of these secret societies making these secret societies very powerful against many people who are against them and never wants to be members.
When this media mounted an investigations into several unlawful killings and forceful initiations by these secret societies, the team had an interviews with the Sierra Leone Inspector general Police about these ugly and ungodly activities by these secret societies including the several victims who had been killed during a forceful initiations by theses society members, what are the status of those cases for possible charges of murder including banning these secret societies?, he replies to these that, “ authorities and political heads are the leaders and sponsors of theses secret societies and therefore all cases connected to secret societies are strongly impossible to be properly investigated and prosecuted due to political interference and interest”. This statement made by the Inspector general of Police led the team to have an interview with secret society leaders and few political heads as to why secret society killings and forceful initiations are always and frequently happening with impunity, sadly, none of them were willing to speak with us and many in our vox-pop said that “ secret societies are not for media understanding and consumption.
Recently, information met us that one of the secret societies name Orgeh Society attempted to forcefully initiate one Mohamed Kamara for the purpose of succeeding his father who was a head of the Ogeh Society, Mr. kamara being the eldest son to his father was said to be chosen by the secret society gods of their clan. Our investigation proved that the Orgeh Society practices norms that their eldest son must succeed all heads of the Orgeh Society if death snatched anyone as a leader.
Speaking with some community people, they told this media that, when the father of Mr. Kamara died, the Orgeh Society that he was belonging to was supposed to do a burial rites of his father as their secret society practices demands, but on the contrary, Mr kamara, the son of the decease with other few people believed to be Muslims went to the secret society bush , vandalized and took away the remains of Mr. Kamara’s father provoking the members of the Orgeh Society to go in search of Mr. Kamara and captured him live, later kept him in unlawful custody to one of their members with seriously beaten and injuries to the point of deaths.
After Mr. Kamara was caught, detained and seriously beaten with multiple injuries by the Orgeh Society members, he later escaped and never to be seen by people. When this media contacted his family, they told this media that they do not know the whereabouts of Mr. kamara and since then he has not yet been seen neither heard from him. In a further investigation, this media tried to contact Mr. Kamara to have his own side of the story, all efforts made to reach him proved to be futile.
