Reports from the Leicester Road, Rural Freetown Mountain community state that one Fuad Turay narrowly escaped lynching at the hands of angry youths in the community, after he was caught red-handed having sex with another young man, an act they saw as demonic and satanic.
According to our source, Fuad Turay has been seen with one Mohamed Kamara, on several occasions, and most of the people felt that they were merely friends interested in football and other social activities, as they were often together in football matches and along the beach. Little did they know that Fuad Turay and Mohamed Kamara were gay, until that fateful day of 6th January 2021, when they were caught in the act by Fuad’s sister, Fatmata Turay.
This medium visited the home of Fuad at Leicester Road and spoke to his father, SantigieTuray and his sister, Fatmata Turay, who disclosed that Mohamed Kamara has been a regular visitor of Fuad and since the family did not imagine that he will stoop so low to get involved in “such satanic act”, they paid little attention to their friendship. Mr. Santigie Turay disclosed that he is a respected figure in the community and a fervent Muslim, with important position at the Leicester Road community jamat. He stressed that such satanic acts are not allowed in both Islam and Christian religions, as well as in all traditional society in the country. Therefore, anyone found in such acts should not be allowed to live, as there is the chance of contaminating the society. He regretted having a son like Fuad, and vowed that had he been the one that caught him, Fuad will be dead by now.
Narrating how she caught Fuad, a very shocked Fatmata Turay disclosed that everyone in the house had gone out, and that their father had also gone to a teaching exercise at the Mosque in the community. She furthered that she forgot her phone in Fuad’s room, where she had left it for charging and had gone to visit a friend. While at her friend’s house, she decided to return to collect her phone and join her friend for a trip to the beach. Upon entering Fuad’s room, which was not locked, probably because no one was at home except him, she saw the shock of her life, when she caught Fuad and his friend, Mohamed Kamara, stark naked making love with groanings. She then raised an alarm that brought a crowd of youths in the community into the house. Fuad and Mohamed were apprehended, taken out of the house and beaten. She furthered that as some youths went for a tyre to put around Fuad’s neck, he managed to escape, while Mohamed Kamara was beaten to an unconscious state. Fatmata furthered that since there were no fencing around any of the houses in the community, Fuad was able to escape into a nearby bush and has not been seen by the youths who pursued him.
Youths in the community told this medium that if they had taken Fuad to the police, he would simply have been sent to life imprisonment, which is a delay of Justice.
It could be recalled that same sex activities are illegal in Sierra Leone, and anyone caught in such activities face the penalty of Life Imprisonment. It is also frowned at by both religious faiths in the country, who describe such acts as demonic and satanic. In traditional society, such people are often killed via poisoning or brutally.
The plight of Fuad Turay and Mohamed Kamara are part of the cases of mob justice metted out on suspects of same sex by community people in the country, with the police turning a blind eye to them.
Meanwhile, as we go to press, the whereabouts of Fuad Turay are unknown, and Mohamed Kamara is said to be in prison.
