Mohamed Sulaiman, a young man originally from the town of the Njaima Sewafe area of Kono District, found himself caught in the midst of these growing dangers on 1st March, 2024.
Mohamed’s ordeal began when elder members and influential figures of these secret societies in his region targeted him with the intent of forcing him into their ranks. The elders and members believed that Mohamed was a suitable candidate to replace his late father in the society’s hierarchy, a tradition rooted in lineage and inheritance within these secret groups. They tracked Mohamed through his community, and in a tense confrontation, they pursued him relentlessly in an attempt to compel his participation in a ritual meant to induct him as a full member. This ritual, often involving symbolic ceremonies, oaths, and sometimes blood sacrifices, has historically been used to establish loyalty and commit recruits fully to the society.
However, Mohamed, being a devout Muslim, held strong religious convictions against involvement in such secret societies. Islam strictly condemns such clandestine organizations, considering them evil entities that promote violence, superstition, and the rejection of divine guidance. Despite the formidable pressure and the aggressive pursuit by the society’s elders, Mohamed managed to evade their grasp during this dangerous encounter. With quick thinking and determination, he escaped narrowly from their clutches, running away from the scene to protect his life.

In what was believed to be a retaliatory act, the bush area owned by the secret society was suddenly engulfed in flames, accusing Mohamed of being the person to have burnt down the secret society bush. This fire appeared to be a deliberate act of arson, yet some skeptics considered it to be coincidental. Nonetheless, the secret society members immediately accused Mohamed of deliberately burning down the bush, portraying him as a threat to their operations and reputation.
Following this incident, the members of the secret society intensified their efforts to locate Mohamed, viewing him as a dangerous dissenter and a threat to their clandestine activities. They launched a manhunt through the village and neighboring areas, seeking to capture or eliminate him. Despite their relentless pursuit, Mohamed demonstrated remarkable skill and resourcefulness, managing to evade capture and escape multiple attacks. His escape was so strategic and swift that it prevented what could have been a tragic end, either his death or permanent disfigurement if he had been captured or bought over by the society’s members.
Since these events unfolded, media outlets have made concerted efforts to locate Mohamed and obtain his account of the ordeal. Journalists, human rights organizations, and local authorities have all shown interest in understanding his story and ensuring his safety. Unfortunately, Mohamed remains out of reach, and his current whereabouts are unknown. Even his family members, who are deeply concerned for his well-being, have been unable to find or contact him, as he has deliberately remained hidden to avoid further danger.
